David Miladinovic, a Year 5 student, recently won third place in his category (Alevín) in the the Andalusian Karting Championship, held in Córdoba on October 6, 2007. David was third in a race with 25 other participants.

This is an account, in his own words, of his experience of that day:

My Third Position in Córdoba

"On Friday morning my parents and I went to Córdoba. Just so you know, I drive go-karts. Go-karts are something like the Formula 1 racing cars.

When we arrived I went to see what the track was like. Some people already drove on the track. I went to my dad's tent that was already built up by our team. I went to put my suit on. My mechanic, "Big Dave", was there too. So I drove on the track and it was pretty good. My team mates had a few problems. I finished the day with a good result.

The next day was special because it was the qualifying and race day. Qualifying means when we go to drive and they measure our time. The person who does the best time starts first. I started fifth. We were quite happy. In two hours' time it was the race!

5, 4, 3, 2, 1... and then we started the race. I fell back to the sixth position. In the first corner I overtook the fifth from the inside. I stayed close to the first group and I overtook two in a tight left corner. I was really trying everything for a podium. I was third at that moment.

I overtook again and I was now first, but I made a big mistake. They overtook me. I was in fifth position again. I stayed close behind and I overtook them on the straight. I got into fourth.

This was a very hard race. It was the last lap. I was still in fourth position. The last curve came. I overtook, came in third and made a nice podium place! My whole team was happy, I was happy, my family and my mechanic were happy.

Later it was the time for me to get my trophy (podium). I went up and I showed my trophy to my friends."
