Sunny View School Celebrates Diwali
On Friday, November 16, Sunny View Primary School held an assembly to celebrate Diwali, the Indian Festival of Light, with traditional singing and dancing performed by our students and organised by the parents. Here are two first-person accounts of the event written by the performers themselves:

"Today we had an assembly at school. We danced with our friends. We went to the cafeteria to get changed and our mothers helped us. First preschool danced a song. The boys started and they had a gold shirt on. Then the girls joined them and they were wearing loose blue clothes. Next I danced with my friends and their names were Ruhaan, Ujuval and Sahil. I wasn’t scared. Tanya, Muskan and Karishma danced as well. They danced two funny songs. At the end, Alisha, Lavitasha and Anmol danced two songs. Our class sang a Diwali song in English on the stage. Mr. and Mrs. Bar played the guitar. Then we went to our classrooms to get our report cards. It was a good day."

“ "Ring, ring...!" The bell rang and we all rushed hurriedly into our classrooms. It was a geography lesson. While Mr. Ewing was explaining how to search in an Atlas, I was too busy looking at my watch. “Tick, tick, tick…” and finally it was time to go!
Karishma and I headed off to the cafeteria. Everyone who participated in the show left their class a little earlier to prepare for Diwali.
Our mothers came to help us change. We were extremely excited. Even pre-school participated in the show. They looked so cute!
Later on, my brother and his friends Ujuval, Sahil and Ruhaan, performed. Next were Karishma, Muskan and Tanya who came on stage with golden, shiny outfits.
Finally it was our turn! Lavitasha and Alisha from High School joined in my dance. When we finished, Mr. Ewing asked us some questions about Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Everyone was more nervous about what he was going to ask us on stage than in the actual dances!
The show ended with a song by Mr. and Mrs. Bar and their class.
We had a fabulous assembly celebrating Diwali at Sunny View School!
Happy Diwali to everyone!”
