Reading With Primary

This year Ms. O’Dowd, the Head Teacher, Mr. Ewing, the Head of Primary and Miss Hughes, our English Teacher, offered the Sixth Form students (Years 12 and 13) the chance to help Primary School children with their reading.

It is a wonderful experience to hear the children reading; every week they improve, and the best thing is knowing that you helped bring on their reading, which is a truly gratifying feeling.

We help the children for around one hour.  During this time we play games where they have to name an object or animal and say the plural and the colours around us and of the animal or object.  We also go over the work they have done in class, we make them write and of course read, which they do amazingly well.

This experience has not only helped the children but us as well, because it has offered us the opportunity of work experience in dealing with people, especially children which are not always easy to handle.

Their enthusiasm and the effort they put in every week is great and we all appreciate the work they do; and we have of course no doubt that they will improve more and more.

Finally I would like to thank the children and everyone involved, my classmates and teachers for making all of this possible, because the harder we work the faster we will all reach our aims.
