Key Stage 2
Welcome to Key Stage 2 (KS2), covering Years 3 to 6, where children aged approximately 7 to 11 dive into a dynamic curriculum guided by the English National Curriculum.
In Key Stage 2 (KS2), students explore a rich tapestry of subjects and concepts through interactive learning experiences, encouraging both teamwork and independent enquiry. Through a blend of traditional teaching methods and modern approaches, we aim to spark curiosity, nurture creativity, and equip our students with the skills they need to thrive in an ever-changing world.

During Key Stage 2, children consolidate and build their knowledge of the main mathematical processes whilst developing problem-solving skills. Reading is integral and is taught using a variety of different strategies. We encourage a love of reading and provide online platforms which help support this at home. We have a strong focus on using texts to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
Cross-curricular topic work remains a cornerstone of the curriculum in Key Stage 2, integrating subjects such as science, history, geography, and art to provide a holistic learning experience. Through topic units, students engage in interdisciplinary exploration, deepening their understanding of key concepts while honing essential skills such as research, critical thinking, and collaboration. For example, children engaged in a topic on the Romans could investigate historical aspects of Roman society, conduct scientific experiments to understand ancient technologies, create sculptures inspired by archaeological artifacts, and visit the Teatro Romano in Málaga to see first-hand the enduring impact locally, of an empire that existed centuries ago.
Research-based learning is also emphasized in Key Stage 2, empowering students to take ownership of their learning and develop enquiry skills. Through projects, investigations, and presentations, students learn to gather information, analyse data, and communicate their findings effectively. This approach fosters independence, creativity, and a deeper understanding of subjects across the curriculum.
Furthermore, Key Stage 2 provides specialized instruction in subjects such as Music, Physical Education (PE), Information and Communication Technology (ICT,) and Science. In Music, students explore elements of rhythm, melody, and composition, developing their musical skills and appreciation through practical activities and performance opportunities. PE classes focus on developing physical fitness, motor skills, and sportsmanship through a variety of sports, games, and outdoor activities.
In ICT, students use tools and platforms to develop essential digital literacy skills for the modern world. Science instruction in Key Stage 2 builds upon the enquiry skills introduced in earlier years, covering topics such as forces, materials, living things, the Earth, and space. Additionally, in Year 6, students also study a Modern Foreign Language: either French or German.
Throughout Key Stage 2, our team of qualified Spanish teachers deliver classes in Lengua (Language) and Conocimeinto del medio (Geography and History) or where appropriate, teach Spanish as an additional language, to provide an enriching linguistic and cultural experience.
Overall, Key Stage 2 provides a comprehensive and engaging learning experience that prepares students academically, socially, and emotionally for the transition to secondary school and beyond. Through a combination of cross-curricular exploration, research-based learning, and specialized subject instruction, Key Stage 2 fosters a love for learning, critical thinking skills, and a well-rounded education.
