Primary
Welcome to Sunny View Primary school, where nurturing a passion for learning is at the heart of everything we do.
We have a wide range of cultural diversity in our school, and this is embraced throughout the year by celebrating a range of events. We are committed to strengthening bonds with home and the community, and our family ethos is evident throughout the school.
An effective curriculum helps equip our students with life-long skills that are transferable and will stay with them throughout, not only their learning journey, but the rest of their lives. While we follow the National Curriculum for England in our core subjects, the topic curriculum is adapted to take account of the fact that our families are living and learning in Spain and therefore this influences our topic choices within the curriculum.

We aim for our students to achieve the highest academic standards, while we also strive to create an environment where children’s strengths are allowed to flourish. We follow the National Curriculum for England in Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). There is a strong emphasis on English and Mathematics. However, the curriculum is a broad one. We plan cross-curricular topics in each year group with an emphasis on enquiry-based learning.
We organise class trips and visits to local museums and places of interest as we believe this enriches the curriculum. Opportunities for learning about the world are provided by activities such as raising money for charity, being part of a performance or listening to a visiting speaker.

ELS - English Language Support
In Primary English Language Support (ELS) classes, we provide help and support for those children – existing and new students – whose English language skills are still developing. Some of the children who are new to Sunny View School may not have previously acquired any English or may have had limited opportunities to acquire the language.
Understanding what their teachers require of them can be challenging and problematic for these learners. With tailor-made support, our aim is for these learners to quickly be able to participate fully in the curriculum.

In Primary ELS, we assess each learner's needs individually. This enables us to provide the best possible support; one-to-one, or in very small groups. We focus on all the language skills: speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Thus, children will be able to settle into the school with more confidence, can participate fully in activities, and eventually go on to produce work at the level expected in the curriculum.
