Spanish Curriculum
Sunny View School is fully authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Education. In addition to following the National Curriculum for England, with students obtaining their International General Certificates of Education (IGCSE), our students also undertake study of those Spanish Curriculum subjects necessary to obtain the Spanish school leaver’s certificate (Educación Secundaria Obligatoria, or ESO) at the end of Y11 (4º ESO).

The Spanish Department offers these subjects both in Primary (Key Stages 1 and 2) and Secondary (Key Stages 3 and 4), thus enabling our students to progress into higher education in Spain or abroad. From Year 2 to Year 11, students study Lengua Castellana y Literatura (Spanish Language and Literature) which places them in direct contact with Spanish grammar, spelling and literature. They also study ‘Conocimiento del Medio’, in primary school and ‘Geografía e Historia’ in secondary school, covering Geography and History.

In the British system students normally take 3 or 4 subjects at A Level, in Key Stage 5. We work closely with those students who may wish to apply to study at Spanish universities, ensuring that they are provided with appropriate guidance and support that enables them to apply on a level playing field with any students applying directly from the Spanish education system.

Year 13 students will obtain UCAS points based on their A Level results. Furthermore, these results have an equivalence on a scale of 1 to 10 when accessing the Spanish university system. If the score required on the scale to access the chosen university degree is higher than 10 points, the possibility of taking two additional specific subjects is offered, giving students the opportunity to obtain a further 4 points, which facilitates access to any degree they choose where entry requires up to 14 points.
