Physics
"I think nature's imagination is so much greater than man's, she's never going to let us relax."
- Richard Feynman
Physics is an all-encompassing subject, dealing with the smallest subatomic particles up to the scale of the entire universe.
It is all about questions: What is a black hole? How was the universe formed? How do musical instruments produce sound? Why does a crisp packet expand so much on an aeroplane? Why do magnets attract or repel one another? The beauty of the subject is that it can answer all of these questions and continues to generate new ones.
A Level Physics
Students will study Edexcel International Advanced Physics. This is a fascinating and challenging course which has the capacity to stretch and inspire students. There is a high level of mathematical demand and students will develop higher order problem solving skills. Practical work is also an integral feature, and this allows students to develop practical skills. At AS level, topics include mechanics, fluid dynamics, electricity, waves and quantum physics. At A2 students study astrophysics, fields and their consequences, electromagnetic induction, simple harmonic motion and the fascinating area of particle physics. This course is an excellent starting point which can lead to careers in various types of engineering, research and development, astrophysics, ICT or even finance and accounting to name but a few.
